‘Creation of New Entrepreneurial Mindset’ public lecture on Aug 12

-

SIBU: A public lecture titled ‘ The Creation of New Entrepreneurial Mindset’ will be held at Methodist Pilley Institute ( MPI) here on Aug 12 from 7 until 9pm.

It is jointly organised by Sibu Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry ( SCCCI) and MPI with the aim of sharing insight on consumer behaviours that challenge current business practices.

It will be conducted by Dr Hiram Ting, who holds a PhD in Marketing, in English and Mandarin.

Admission is free, but registration is needed to get seats.

SCCCI president Dr Hii Sui Cheng told a press conference yesterday that this kind of issue was very relevant in facing the coming challenges triggered by the onslaught of the digital economy, including e- commerce.

“We have to change, improve our productivity; we must be knowledgeable on this matter which is why the lecture is very important,” he said.

MPI principal Hii King Kai, on the other hand, said social media has changed the way consumers behave without them knowing it.

Citing an example, he said goods can be conveniently purchased online.

“Therefore, marketers and business people have to change the way they promote, market and distribute their products and services. For us here to compete, we have to catch-up otherwise we will be left behind.

“That is why we are organising this talk to bring in market studies from a researcher’s point of view on how consumers change and the opportunities available,” he said.

Meanwhile, Ting is the chairman of Sarawak Research Society ( SRS) – a scholarly body established to promote and enhance research culture and activities in Sarawak.

For more information, contact MPI ( 084- 322268) or SCCCI ( 084 326959).

Among those present were SCCCI vice-president So Teck Kee and secretary Wong Ee Sing.
