Chong thanks land superintendent for quick response to complaint
KUCHING: State DAP chairman Chong Chieng Jen thanks the Superintendent of Kuching Land and Survey office for his quick response to his complaint about the backlog of work at the Land Registry Office.
He said he was glad that after his complaint was made on June 30, the superintendent had taken immediate steps to resolve the problem.
“Within two days after my complaint, the backlog was cleared and there is no more backlog of document pending registration at the office.
“I have thus written a letter of appreciation and gratitude to the superintendent for his quick and positive response and that of his colleagues at the registry office.
“In the last few days, public feedback on registration of documents at the Kuching Land Registry Office has been encouraging and there is no more backlog at the registry office,” he said yesterday.
Chong, who is also Bandar Kuching MP and Kota Sentosa assemblyman, said the Superintendent of the Kuching Land and Survey Office was a fine example of a government servant who did not take criticism with a negative and denying attitude.
He said the superintendent had worked work on the criticism to improve and win back the satisfaction and confidence of the public.
On June 30, Chong complained there were only two employees on duty that day to serve clients as a large number of staff were still on Hari Raya Aidilfitri leave.
As for the racial imbalance problem resulting in the severe shortage of staff during the Hari Raya celebration, Chong said this was due to the unfair employment policy of the state government, which is not within the jurisdiction of the Kuching Land Registry Office.
“In that respect, I will raise the issue at a proper forum such as the State Legislative Assembly sitting.
“Such racial imbalance in the government sector is not only detrimental to the racial harmony in Sarawak but it will also put Malay officers in a disadvantaged position when many of them may be refused leave for Hari Raya celebration due to the severe shortage of non-Malay staff to take over their responsibility while they are on leave.
“I urge that this problem be rectified by the state government soonest,” he said.
