KUCHING: Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg is expected to launch the first Borneo Tribal Fest at Borneo Tribal Village ( BTV), Kampung Apar Singai, Bau on July 9.

Datuk Peter Nansian Ngusie, advisor to Perpetual Wellness Sdn Bhd which developed the unique getaway, said that the jungle resort is built for perpetual wellness where people can live, learn and, at the same time, enjoy absolute leisure when they patronise the place.

“The 22- acre tribal village has a lot to offer and visitors will experience as much with the natural surroundings. As soon as they arrive at the entrance of the village, they will be intrigued to see the unique natural beauty of the belian wood fence that was built and designed to make them feel welcome,” he said after taking members of the media around the jungle resort yesterday.

“You must walk to the tortoise pit to pat the back (of the tortoise statue) for long life, feed the fish at the fish pond for happiness, visit the aquaponics block to watch the ecosystem at work, and listen to the waterfall for peace of mind,” he added.

Nansian said the resort offers many types of accommodation for visitors to stay in – from jungle camp- style accommodation to four- star chalets.

“There are also traditional and contemporary longhouses, bamboo cabins and tribal huts if visitors want to experience more traditional accommodations, as well as many more halls and buildings whose design are inf luenced by the Bidayuh community,” he said

Nansian said that they designed and built the resort in this manner so that the ambience gives off a tribal feel in a natural environment.

“We also planted flowers for the stingless bees ( kelulut), a herb and vegetable garden, fruit tree, beverage trees and plants (cocoa, coffee and tea),timber trees, a 44- acre bamboo park ( Bamboo Botanical Park) and even built a tribal museum for educational purposes,” he added.

He said there are many other amenities like showers, toilets, barbecue pits, a canteen and even conference rooms to offer patrons extra comfort along with the rejuvenating, fresh air.

“There is also a river, namely Sungai Adis, with pristine water that people can dip in and also swim, and we built three chalets nearby for people who love riverside scenery,” he said

Nansian said BTV has more facilities now and is a nice getaway resort for city folks. He hoped that more people would come to patronise the resort after the launch.

“We want to share (the experience of ) simple living in the jungle and people can always come to BTV for the experience. Before they leave the resort, the patron must also visit BTV’s iconic photo point,” he said.

He said BTV’s location is easy to reach as it takes about half an hour to reach the resort if there is no heavy traffic, and it is also not very far from Kuching International Airport.

The theme for the first Borneo Tribal Fest is ‘ Tribal Culture in Digital Era’.

Perpetual Wellness is managed by Bee Tuah Agro Venture Sdn Bhd.
