Tanjong Lobang College Class of 72/ 73 raises RM48,000 for SCCS at reunion dinner

KUCHING: Tanjong Lobang College ( TLC) Class of 72/73 raised a total of RM48,100 for the Sarawak Children’s Cancer Society (SCCS) during a reunion dinner recently.

According to a press statement, former TLC principal Leonard Martin Uning was on hand to present a cheque for RM20,000 to the non- government­al organisati­on, received by SCCS accounts executive Marilyn Kunche.

The remaining RM28,100 was raised from generous donors who attended the dinner held at a leading hotel here.

Funds raised will go towards providing support and services to children with cancer and their families.

He expressed his pride in learning that the Class of 72/73 had produced many notable personalit­ies such as experience­d politician­s, outstandin­g corporate figures, successful businessme­n, excellent educators, principals as well as a host of other brilliant profession­als, many of whom were also now happily retired grandparen­ts.

He also pointed out that he would like to see his former students use their influence or experience to direct the developmen­t of Malaysian society.

During the dinner, former TLC headboy Dr Wong Sung Gin was also invited to share his experience concerning the plight faced by cancer patients.

Meanwhile, organising committee chairman Saadi Sama said apart from the dinner, which was attended by more than 100 former Form 6 students and their spouses from many countries including Australia, Singapore and Brunei, the college alumni played a round of golf earlier during the day to ‘ kick- start the reunion spirit’.

Other activities included a karaoke session, ‘ poco- poco’ dance, lucky draw and special awards to recognise the unique talents of various college mates.

Among the notable guests were Assistant Minister of Local Government Datu Dr Penguang Manggil, Assistant Minister of Urban Planning, Land Administra­tion and Environmen­t Datu Len Talif Salleh, Robert Goh, Puan Sri Datin Anne Hii, Dato Dr Amin Khan, Datu Dr Ngenang Jangu, and Datuk Awang Bujang.
