RM3 million to kick off two low carbon projects in Langkawi

-

LANGKAWI: A sum of RM3 million had been allocated to implement two projects under the Langkawi Low Carbon Island 2030 initiative this year, Langkawi district officer, Isahak Murat said yesterday.

He said these projects made up of an electric taxi service and the installation of 20 electric vehicle charging stations around the resort island.

“At the moment the projects are at their procurement stages which we expect to be completed soon to enable them to take off this year,” he told reporters on the sidelines of the Muafakat Aidilfitri open house here.

The Langkawi Low Carbon Island initiative was announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak in 2015 to turn the island as a showcase for renewable energy, electric mobility, waste management and green buildings.

Isahak said a number of private companies had also shown their interests to participate in the initiative and, among them, was Naza Auto Solution Asia Sdn Bhd, which would start an electric buggy service at Pantai Chenang next month. — Bernama
