CM: New bridge to be built across Batang Lassa

DARO: A new bridge will be built across Batang Lassa near here to complement the Mukah-Tanjung Manis coastal road. Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg, who approved the constructi­on of the bridge, said the cost involved will be determined later.

“The bridge will bring more impact when completed other than connecting places like Pulau Bruit , Daro, Matu, Mukah and coastal areas here. Economic and agricultur­al opportunit­ies can be expanded in this area if we do not have road problems,” he told a press conference after officiatin­g at a Hari Raya Aidilfitri gathering here yesterday.

Abang Johari, who is also Satok assemblyma­n, said the bridge will be among the longest in the state to be constructe­d and thus it will take some time to be discussed especially its cost and implementa­tion.

In his speech earl ier, he reiterated that he would focus on developing rural areas including new water supply formulas besides repairing and upgrading schools as well as improving Internet facilities and roads.

He a l so approved RM5 million for the constructi­on of a new mosque in Daro and later declared open the new Daro District Office building.

Among those present were his wi fe Datin Amar Datuk Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang, Igan MP Datuk Wahab Dolah, Assistant Minister of Corporate Affairs Abdullah Saidol, Daro assemblyma­n Safiee Ahmad, Jemoreng assemblyma­n Datuk Dr Juanda Jaya, pol it ical secretary to the chief minister Abu Seman Jahwie and Sarawak Rivers Board chairman Dr Murni Suhaili.
