KUCHING: Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg aspires to bring forth a new business district in Satok in five years.

The Chief Minister and Satok assemblyman said he will see to it that his constituency, as well as the entire state, be amply connected to the Internet for the development of digital economy.

Abang Johari regarded the Satok constituency as a ‘canggih’ (modern) area given that it was already enjoying good internet speed.

“We have the Internet speed although we have blind spots at times. We can better plan our area. In five years, I believe we can have a new business district in Satok,” he said at a Ramah Tamah Aidilfitri event organised by neighbourhood watch committees in Satok at the Satok Community

On a related matter, Abang Johari said he had instructed the state Land and Survey Department to come up with a development plan for Kampung Segedup and Kampung Maong in his constituency.

He added that he had a plan in mind to rearrange the two mentioned villages in order to see a new landscape in the area.

“I have instructed the Land and Survey to have planning for Segedup and Maong. I will develop the two villages.”

He said he would also build affordable homes for Kampung Segedup for the benefit of the low and middle income group.

Abang Johari also urged his constituents to be IT- savvy in line with the state government’s initiative to develop digital economy.

“Let us begin with people of Satok as we move forward with the development of digital economy.”

According to him, technology holds promises to make life better while the local community can have access to the latest information and knowledge.

He said he wanted to see more people, especially community leaders in Satok, use ICT devices such as smart phones to stay connected at all times.

“Use ICT to enhance communication. Besides, you can also make use of ICT to monitor what is going on in Satok including monitoring development projects.”

Abang Johari said he had been informed of the status of various projects via mobile application WhatsApp.

“Together with ( Works Minister and Petra Jaya MP Datuk) Fadillah ( Yusof), we will closely monitor all the projects that have been announced by me to make sure they will be completed,” said the chief minister.

Citing the Bintangor Bridge in Satok as example, he said the community can now take a stroll along the well- connected area following the completion of the project.

“Now, the area is linked. People can walk from Kampung No. 3, up to the Bintangor Bridge, to Kampung Masjid and then to the Waterfront,” he added.
