Don’t sell your land, Dr Sim advises Batu Kawa landowners

-

KUCHING: Landowners in Batu Kawa are advised against selling their land as they are expected to soar in value in the next couple of years.

In giving this advice yesterday, Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian said land in Batu Kawa will be more valuable in view of the development projects lined up for the area.

“If you have land in Batu Kawa, do not sell it. Even if you need to sell your land, sell it to me. The value of land in Batu Kawa will go up in five years because of a lot of economic activities happening in the years to come,” he said at a Ramah Tamah Aidilfitri event held at Kampung Stapok Hall here yesterday.

Dr Sim, who is Batu Kawa assemblyman, said among the projects planned for his constituency were Batu Kawa Lagoon, Riverbank Park and the construction of affordable homes.

He added that other development projects included the construction of a police station, fire station and 1Malaysia Clinic.

According to him, works for the proposed 1Malaysia Clinic, which is set to benefit people of Batu Kawa once completed, will commence shortly.

He thus called upon his constituents to equip themselves with skills and know-how so that they could take part in those proposed projects.

“Because without skills and advanced knowledge, you may not be able to play a role and even if there is vacancy, you can ‘tengok saja’ (see only).”

Dr Sim asserted that the Resident Office here deserved its own premises instead of sharing facilities with other organisations at the Sarawak Islamic Complex.

He said he would discuss with the Chief Minister a plan to relocate the Resident Office.

“I want to discuss with the Chief Minister on relocating the Resident Office to Batu Kawa. There is a parcel of land of more than 100 acres in Batu Kawa which can be used for the relocation.

“I will talk to the Chief Minister to see if he will agree. At the moment, Resident Office is paying rent for the office they’re using now,” he added.

The festive do was jointly organised by the Batu Kawa Bumiputera Community Association, SUPP Batu Kawa branch and Village Security and Development Committee (JKKK) of Kpg Stapok.

Among those present were Batu Kawa Bumiputera Community Association founder Ferdinand Janting Maurice and organising chairman Narawi Salleh.
