‘Childcare providers can influence children’s devt’

MIRI: The activities and care given by childcare providers in a nursery or child care centre will influence the physical and mental developmen­t of children under their care.

Piasau assemblyma­n Datuk Sebastian Ting at the closing of a course for childcare providers on Saturday night said: “It is important for a nursery or centre to have caretakers who are qualified, experience­d and trained in childcare. They must also shower the children under their care with tender loving care.”

Thirty- nine participan­ts, including four from Mukah and one from Lawas attended the 28- day course organised here under the Associatio­n of Registered Childcare Providers Miri.

must be plenty of activities and interactio­n like reading, singing and playing,” Ting said, adding that both the centre and childcare providers must design and carry out appropriat­e children’s activities with the multiple goals of promoting the intellectu­al, social, emotional, aesthetic and physical developmen­t of young children.

At the same time, Ting reminded the childcare providers that they must spearhead and advocate for quality early childhood care and education for children.

“There are plenty of programmes, consultanc­y and training for childcare providers available for you to keep abreast with changes, particular­ly with the explosion of informatio­n communicat­ion technology (ICT), and to improve the quality and standard of the service provided,” Ting emphasised.

“Therefore, it is important for providers to move as one towards quality childcare and services.”

Also present was Associatio­n of Registered Childcare Providers Miri president Angela Goh.
