Residents concerned about stray dogs
MIRI: Residents of Desa Senadin and Tudan Desa Ras are worried that many stray dogs are wandering around the housing and resettlement areas.
They fear that the dogs may be carriers of the deadly rabies virus.
A resident of Desa Ras, Ayak Jamil, said the stray dogs were often seen wandering in groups of five to six and sometimes barked at passersby.
“It is very dangerous as they might bite passersby especially those walking and using bicycles or motorbikes. It is high time that the authority did patrolling and catch these stray dogs,” he told The Borneo Post yesterday.
Ayak related that one day at about 5.30am, while he was riding his motorbike from his home in Desa Ras to go to work in Miri, he saw about five dogs barking at each other at a roadside in the

resettlement area and tried to bite him when he passed them.
“Luckily, I managed to speed off and flee from the running stray dogs which were barking aggressively,” he said.
“We don’t know if these dogs have owners or not as they just move in groups and everywhere at the resettlement area,” he added.
Sharing the same view, Justin James from Desa Senadin said these dogs could be seen wandering and moving together along the roads in the residential area.
“Many times I saw residents shouting in fear when they passed by the group of dogs,” he said.
He said a woman shouted for help for fear of being bitten by a dog and luckily for her some residents came out and chased the dog away.
“High time for the local council to enforce its law so that the enforcement team can take away dogs found without licence to safeguard the residents from being bitten by dogs,” he said further.
