Let’s talk, Awg Tengah tells opponents of Trusan re-development project

-

LAWAS: Those who oppose the Trusan re- development project should seek a solution to resolve the issue instead of pursuing legal action.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan gave this reminder at the Raya gathering of Trusan Zone here yesterday, saying the future of Trusan and the socio- economic wellbeing of the people should be the paramount consideration.

“Come, let’s sit down and talk to find a solution,” he said, adding his wish is to see the successful redevelopment of Trusan township to replace the current run- down wooden shop houses which were built decades ago as a temporary measure after a big fire.

“I don’t want to see the sorry state of the run- down shop houses getting worse by the year while the bridge project from Brunei mainland to Temburong district next door is progressing well,” he further said.

Awang Tengah lamented that some took their unhappiness to court which ruled against them.

“It is time to be pragmatic and move on by cooperating and keeping an eye on the future,” he advised.

The deputy chief minister said he was familiar with Trusan and the shop house owners as he was a teacher at the school there,

“Trusan should be developed as a transit town with an environment that can attract visitors,” he added.

On drugs, he called on parents to monitor their children in order that they do not get entangled with the drug menace which can destroy families and their future.

He also called on parents to place higher education as top priority for their children.

Lawas District Council deputy chairman Awangku Abedin Pengiran Jawa, who is also PBB Bukit Sari branch deputy chairman, said the deputy chief minister had never failed to visit the grassroots and was committed to the welfare, economy and social development in Trusan.

“The people of Trusan and Lawas have benefited from the wisdom of electing a good leader and the BN government,” he said.

Meanwhile, he also called for greater development such as better telecommunications infrastructure and more economic activities for Trusan.

Also present were Awang Tengah’s wife Datuk Dayang Morliah Awang Daud, Limbang Resident Datu Maria Hasman, Lawas district officer Hussaini Hakim and community leaders from the Malay, Chinese and Lun Bawang communities.
