Joint celebrations good for fostering harmony

- – Dr Rundi

BINTULU: The celebration of two events at one time— Hari Raya Aidilfitri and ‘Ngiling Bidai’— is the best approach to fostering greater understanding between Muslims and the Dayak community in the division, said Minister of Rural Electricity and Water Supply Datuk Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom.

He said organising the celebrations simultaneously is the best way to create a friendly atmosphere and racial harmony particularly in Bintulu and Sarawak in general.

“What’s important is that the multi-racial community in Bintulu should respect each other by visiting relatives and friends during the festive season,” he said.

He said this when officiating at the Hari Raya Aidilfitri and Ngiling Bidai 2017 programme jointly organised by Persatuan Warga Labang, Darul Muttaqin Labang mosque management committee and the village security and development committees of Labang longhouses at the Kampung Labang community hall on Sunday. The Kemena assemblyman said the two-in- one programme was indeed the best platform to further strengthen the cooperation and inter-racial harmony in the Labang area, thus contributing towards developing the area in the future.

Dr Rundi said the event should be continued in the future and become an annual event for the locals. During the event, he announced a RM10,000 grant each to the organising committee and Parent-Teacher Association of SK Labang.

Political secretaries to the Chief Minister Jenny Bangga, Michael Mujah and Temenggong Anyang, and Sebauh District officer Mohd Irwan Abdullah were among those present.
