Magnum ups its contribution to annual Kuching Food Fair

-

KUCHING: ENE ( East Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, the operator of Magnum 4D, upped their annual contribution and handed over a total of RM50,000 to Kuching City South Council ( MBKS) yesterday in support of the Kuching Food Fair.

Magnum regional manager Liew Kee Chuan told reporters that the company has increased its contribution from RM40,000 previously to RM50,000 this year as a way of giving back to the society.

“The Kuching Food Fair is a good programme. We have been contributing to the Kuching Festival since 1991, starting with the beauty contest for two years and then with the food fair since. This is a partnership and we hope to continue it for a long time,” he said.

MBKS Mayor James Chan said that the money will go towards building the 250 stalls that will sell beverages and both local and international delicacies at the fair.

“There’s been an increase of 10 stalls from last year. A majority of the stall holders are youths in their 20s. Most of them want to try selling food for 24 nights straight to see if they can make a career out of that,” said Chan.

He pointed out that he hoped to see more local fare, although he understood if young people wanted to tap into novelty food items from places like Taiwan that would appeal to patrons of the food fair.

“Magnum is helping these youths with their sponsorship,” he added.

Chan received the mock cheque from Liew during a simple handing over ceremony in his office.

Also present were ENE ( East Malaysia) Sdn Bhd marketing officer Cecilia Chai and Kuching Food Fair 2017 organising chairman Goh Tze Hui.

Kuching Food Fair, a prominent part of the annual Kuching Festival, attracted more than 890,000 locals and tourists last year.

During this year’s fair, various associations will take turns to serve their unique Chinese home cooked dishes.

The associations involved are Hainan Association (Jul 28- 30), Teochew Association (Jul 31 - Aug 2), Chawan Association (Aug 35), Kwong Wai Siew Association (Aug 6- 8), Sarawak Hakka Community Association (Aug 9-11), Foochow Association (Aug 12-14), Hokkien Association (Aug 15-17), and Hin Ann Association (Aug 18-20).

The month-long Kuching Festival 2017 begins on July 28.
