‘Do not sabotage Redeems as association seeks to bring more devt to community’

-

BAU: The Association of Research and Development Movement of Singai Sarawak ( Redeems) celebrated its 20th anniversary on Saturday with its president vowing that he will not allow any individual or group to sabotage the association.

According to Datuk Peter Nansian Ngusie, there are individuals or a group of people who want to sabotage the association and he hopes that they will realise that they are not only sabotaging the association but the community as well.

“If these people sabotage the association because they claim to love the community, they are wrong. They are only doing it to themselves,” he added when speaking to reporters during the Redeems 20th anniversary dinner held at the Redeems Centre in Kampung Apar, Singai.

“This is because the association is only looking for ways to bring more development to the BauSingai Bidayuh community,” Nansian said.

Among the many things which Redeems has introduced for the Singai Bidayuh community included research about the Singai Bidayuh dialect, Singai durian, herbs and shrubs found at Mount Singai.

“Universiti Malaysia Sarawak ( Unimas) for example is helping us with seed banks for plants such as the Singai durian which is very well known. We have also signed a MoU with Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation ( Pusaka) to develop a bamboo park and a timber park here,” said Nansian.

For him, with all the development and contributions by Redeems it would be sad to see that there are people out there who want to bring the association down.

The association even has its own centre built on 17 acres of land which not only benefits the Singai community, but outsiders as well.

Looking back, he said that he was proud of the achievements of Redeems and vowed to take the association to greater heights while at the same time bring more development to the Singai community.

Formed in 1997, Redeems is a community- based organisation for the 12 villages in the Singai area in Bau district.

It was officially registered with the Registrar of Societies on July 7, 1997 as an non- governmental organisation and a non-profit body.
