Council holds third Local Agenda 21, Community Development programme
KAPIT: Kapit District Council ( KDC) held its third Local Agenda 21 and Community Development programme at Rumah Melayu Angkup in Nanga Latong, Sungai Tekalit, a tributary of Katibas river recently.
Officiating at the function was Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi, who is Kapit MP.
The first of such programme was held at Rumah Ansie, Nanga Sepajie in Mujong in late March while the second was at Uma Kelab, Bakun Resettlement Scheme, Sungai Asap in mid May this year.
Among the activities during the programme were preventive fogging, talks by Kapit District Council, Natural Resources Environment Board Sibu, Song Fire and Rescue Department, Song District Office, Song Police, Health Department and Song National Registration Department, fire fighting demonstration, ‘gotong royong’ to clean the longhouse surrounding, tree planting, children’s colouring contest and telematch.
It was attended by 16 village headmen along Sungai Tekalit, some 350 longhouse folks and several councillors.
Present were a political secretary to the chief minister Tapah Ata, Song district officer Jackline August, Kapit District Council deputy walikota Lawrence Listin Baling, assistant secretary Kelimbik Sibat, heads of the various government departments in Song district, Pemanca Edward Jamit Untam and Penghulu Ajut Dingin.
Inhisspeech,Listinthanked the JKKK of Rumah Melayu for their willingness to host the programme that provided an opportunity for the rural community to be close to the various government agencies and the local elected representatives.
He conveyed an apology from Walikota Philimon Nuing and the council’s secretary Jabang Juntan for not being able to be present at the programme as they had an important meeting with the Ministry of Local Government and Housing in Kuching on the same day.
He also thanked the various government agencies for their full support for the programme and providing talks on their roles and functions including new policies.
On the LA 21 and community development programmes, Listin disclosed that the council had proposed to organise the event at six state constituencies in Kapit division; namely Katibas, Bukit Goram, Pelagus, Baleh, Belaga and Murum.
“To date we have organised three of the events with the first one at Baleh, second at Murum. Coming up will be in Bukit Goram, Pelagus and Belaga,” he said.
He assured that the council would continue to carry out the programme annually.
“The venue and date for each constituency will be decided by the councillors later,” he said.
On behalf of the council, Listin announced an allocation of RM12,000 from the council - RM10,000 for the JKKK and RM2,000 to assist the JKKK in the organising of the programme.
