Enthusiast­s invited to arts, crafts exhibition­s at state library

MIRI: Arts and crafts enthusiast­s including those wanting to know crafts made from recycled items are invited to two exhibition­s being held at Pustaka Negeri Sarawak Miri.

Eleven entries for ‘ The Arts & Crafts Competitio­n – Let’s Upcycle!’ held as part of the World Oceans Day ( WOD) Celebratio­n 2017 here is being held until Thursday (July 27). Thereafter, from Friday until Sunday (July 28 – 30) the exhibits will be displayed at Coco Cabana restaurant where the closing ceremony will be held on July 29.

The crafts were made from recyclable materials picked up from beaches in Miri and transforme­d into innovative, useful products or creative artwork based on the WOD 2017 theme ‘Our Oceans, Our Future’.

Attractive prizes await the winners with the prize- giving to be held on Saturday (July 29).

The other arts exhibition at Pustaka Negeri Sarawak Miri is by local artist Abdul Kadir Bisnoor.

The exhibition themed ‘Nature: Watercolor and Mixed Media’ is held on the Ground Floor Foyer of the library for a month until July 13 from 10am to 6pm daily. Admission is free.

Abdul Kadir is an architect from Bekenu, who has a deep interest in art since young. He majors in Fine Arts under the Internatio­nal Baccalaure­ate (IB) programme in Mara College, Banting and after completing his diploma, proceeded to undertake his Bachelor’s Degree in Architectu­re.

He has participat­ed in a number of group exhibition­s in Kuala Lumpur during his course of studies, and his paintings are on display in various corporate offices and institutio­ns.

The artworks by Abdul Kadir are watercolou­r paintings of nature and its surroundin­gs.

There are 42 paintings in the art exhibition, which can be purchased at affordable prices.

Pustaka Negeri Sarawak, Miri frequently organises events including art exhibition­s to support homegrown artists in line with its mission to preserve Sarawak’s intellectu­al heritage.
