‘Feedback crucial in developing education in rural areas’

JULAU: There is a need for local teachers and other members of the education fraternity here to pool their resources towards raising the standard of education for the children in Meluan constituen­cy.

Meluan assemblyma­n Rolland Duat said while he was happy to see that many teachers had adapted themselves well to the rural environmen­t, he was hopeful for them to provide input and feedback on ways to address problems faced in rural schools such as irregular supply of daily necessitie­s.

Another challenge that the assemblyma­n noted was connectivi­ty, which he would help out as best as he could in his capacity as the elected representa­tive.

“I do hope these problems would not dampen the teachers’ spirit, determinat­ion and enthusiasm in serve the rural community. By working together, we should be able to bring in positive changes.”

Adding on, Rolland – a former school headmaster – also called on the teachers to provide their charges with assistance, guidance and also informatio­n that would facilitate their pursuit of education excellence.

“Such guidance also include helping the children decide on future fields of studies and careers based on their potential, as well as advising them on various scholarshi­ps and education loan facilities made available by the government,” he said, also encouragin­g the teachers to hold more motivation­al programmes for their students.

“For this purpose, I assure you of my help, especially in terms of funding.”

Meanwhile, the Yayasan Sarawak school uniform vouchers, worth RM200 each, were given to 69 secondary school students and 331 primary school pupils from across Julau District.

Yayasan Sarawak representa­tive Peter Watson Chunggat, Julau District Education Office representa­tive Asas Lanyau and Sarikei Resident’s Office representa­tive Safaidi Tumbuh were among those present.
