Land Thamal Exercise enhances armies’ capabilities
PENGKALAN HULU: The Land Thamal Exercise 23/2017 between the Malaysian Army ( TDM) and the Royal Thai Army ( RTA) is aimed at enhancing the capabilities of the armies as well as strengthening the bilateral ties in border protection.
Army field commander west region Lt Gen Datuk Azizan Md Delin said the security at borders would also be under control due to the close cooperation and ties between the two armies.
“We have long been working together and our ties are so close since the exercise began and there have been no smuggling incidents since Ramadan until now,” he told reporters at the opening of the Land Thamal Exercise at the Third Battalion Border Regiment, here yesterday.
The nine- day exercise involves 200 TDM and RTA personnel.
Also present was RTA Fifth Infantry Division commandant Maj Gen Sittiporn Musikasin.
Azizan said the exercise was also a platform for the personnel to glean experience with their colleagues from Thailand as well as improving and strengthening their quality of work and professionalism.
“Without a proper, comprehensive and continuous training, we certainly cannot afford and unable to face any future possibilities.
“I hope that our personnel will make full use of the opportunity to learn as much knowledge from our Thai friends.
"At the same time, we have to study all the shortcomings and weaknesses in order to improve our skills and abilities to face the future challenges,” he said. — Bernama
