Kuching basketball teams to vie for Datuk Simon Wong Cup

KUCHING: The Kuchi ng Division Basketball Associatio­n ( KDBA) are organising the 59th Kuching Open Basketbal l Championsh­ip for the 4th Datuk Simon Wong Cup from Aug 1031 at MBKS Indoor Stadium in Pending.

This competitio­n is aimed not only at promoting the game and fostering ties among the players but also to select the players for the state-level tournament.

In order to at t ract more participan­ts, KDBA have made a change in the Men’s Open which will be divided into two divisions, similar to the inter-state Agong’s Cup format.

The top four teams from last year will be in Division I while the top two teams from Division II shall advance to the semi-finals to play against teams in Div I.

The Men’s Open is open only to residents from Kuching, Samarahan and Serian while the Women’s Open is open to Malaysian citizens.

The Women’s Open will feature only one division with five to six teams playing in a league system.

Entry fees for the Men’s Open and Women’s Open are RM500 and RM400 per team respective­ly.

Closing date for submission of entries is set on Aug 2.

The meeting of team managers and draw will be on Aug 5.
