Cara Delevingne ‘wants to be James Bond’
CARA Delevingne is eyeing the part of James Bond.
The 24-year- old beauty has been frequently suggested as a potential Bond girl of the future, but the ambitious modelturned-actress has revealed she is instead eyeing the top role, saying she would love to replace Daniel Craig as the iconic British agent.
Speaking in London’s Leicester Square at the European premiere of her new fi lm ‘Valerian And The City Of A Thousand Planets’ on Monday, Delevingne told The Sun newspaper: “I want to be James Bond. Women do it just as well.”
Delevingne stars in the Luc Besson- directed sci- fi movie alongside musician Rihanna, who also attended the premiere in London.
Mesmerising on set
And the British star has hailed Rihanna’s talent, saying she was “born to act”.
Delevingne believes the singer was always destined to be in front of the camera because she is “mesmerising on set”.
Of her Bajan co- star, Delevingne said: “Rihanna is as mesmerising on set as she is on stage.
“She was born to act. There’s a rare group of people that just have it, and she has it. What she does is astonishing.”
By contrast, Delevingne has confessed she struggles to watch herself in movies because she “can’t connect” the character with her “own body”.
She explained: “Seeing myself in a movie is still something I fi nd hard to accept. IT doesn’t sit very easy with me. I can’t connect with my own body, watching myself.”
Delevingne admitted, too, that she is often overwhelmed with apprehension when she has to see herself act.
The actress shared: “I get very nervous and apprehensive watching myself in movies.”
Meanwhile, Luc Besson had to persuade his producers to get Rihanna to star in ‘Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets’.
The iconic ‘Fifth Element’ fi lmmaker knew from the start that he wanted to cast the singer in the pivotal role as Bubble in his new sci-fi fi lm, but Besson had to persuade his producers to reach out as they were unsure they could get her in the independent fi lm.
He said: “Bubble is the ultimate artistes — that’s the part. And for me, Rihanna is the ultimate — she’s the queen. I thought about her from the beginning. And when we started the cast, I said, ‘For Bubble, I’d love to contact Rihanna.’ They (the producers) said ‘What’s your second choice?’ I said, ‘ Why?’ They said, ‘Luc, come on.’ I said, ‘Why not? Let’s try it. Let’s see.’ The first question we asked to the manager is if she’s interested in shooting in the fi lm. If she’s not interested, then don’t even give her the script. But the guy came back and said, ‘Definitely, yes.’”
Besson — who is married to fi lm producer Virginie Silla — and Rihanna enjoyed a “normal relationship” on set he says the R& B singer couldn’t have been more “perfect” as a professional during the shoot.
The all- star cast also included Clive Owen, Ethan Hawke, Rutger Hauer and Dane DeHaan. — BANG Showbiz
