KUCHING: An officer from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is urging the public to refrain from speculating when their personnel are seen entering or leaving an office or premises.

Such speculation, he warned, could only create a chain of allegations that may go viral on social media, causing confusion and even anger among members of the public.

“It would also be unhealthy to the companies or individuals affected by the unfounded allegations,” the officer who wished to remain anonymous told thesundaypost yesterday.

He made those remarks in response to an allegation by members of a local entrepreneur group claiming that MACC had raided the state office of a federal government agency in Petra Jaya on Friday morning.

“Actually, the MACC personnel were returning some documents to the agency. There was no raid or any investigation of the agency,” the officer said.

by MACC. It was alleged that development funds meant for training and assistance to local Bumiputera entrepreneurs was used by the agency to purchase gym equipment installed in their office instead.

The officer said one of the entrepreneurs had recently tipped MACC on the alleged misappropriation of the development fund which led to the ‘raid’.

The entrepreneur said they have been waiting for a long time for the agency to conduct training and provide assistance to local bumiputera entrepreneurs.

“Instead, we found that they are using the money for unnecessary things. We are angry because of this,” he claimed on behalf of those listed under the agency.
