KUCHING: The Maggi’s ‘Jom Masak & Menang’ competition came to a close yesterday after announcing a retired contractor as the grand prize winner.

Tie Teck Ming, 70, said he was not expecting the call from Maggi to be listed as one of the finalists. Nevertheless, he said ‘he was blessed’ and expressed his gratitude to Maggi as well as his family and friends who came to support him.

The septuagenarian outran two other contenders in the challenges set up for the finale at Emart Batu Kawah near here – a feat that earned him a Isuzu D-Max 3.0L V-Cross AT pickup truck.

On this, Tie said he previously won something but never did he expect to take home a brand new vehicle.

“I really did things differently. Everyone came to win but I came prepared with strategies, despite not knowing the challenges that I’d be facing. It was a close fight amongst us, but luck was on my side. Winning the Isuzu D-Max definitely made my year,” he said.

Maggi’s ‘Jom Masak & Menang’ contest, which kicked off on May 1, received its highest submission record of close to 220,000 entries.

This annual campaign, run in conjunction with Gawai Dayak celebrations, highlights Maggi’s continuous efforts in engaging and rewarding individuals and families for their strong support over the years.

“This contest is our way of showing appreciation to our consumers for making Maggi a part of their everyday special moments,” said Nestlé (Malaysia) Bhd Sarawak manager Dave Bawa.

“Much like how the Gawai Dayak festival is a celebration of unity and thankfulness, we at Maggi are truly thankful for the strong support given to us all these years.”

At the finale, the three finalists underwent a series of challenges that tested their technical skills, on-the-spot agility as well as their knowledge on Maggi products.

The finale was the culmination of a two-month campaign, which gave away weekly prizes such as the Sharp 430L two-door refrigerators, 120GB branded tablet computers, Samsung C9 Pro smartphones, and 49-inch Toshiba SmartTV 4K UHD.

There were also seven roadshows set up here, in Sibu and Miri every week, which allowed visitors to take part in fun games that Maggi had prepared for them.

It is stated that Maggi had reached out to more than 7,000 Sarawakians during this twomonth campaign.

Meanwhile, the Maggi carnival at Emart Batu Kawah here is still on today, hosting various activities such as cooking demonstrations and also exciting prize giveaways for those who purchase Maggi products.
