Saratok folk staying true to 1Malaysia concept – Mawan

-

SARATOK: The constituents here truly embody the spirit of 1Malaysia – a unity concept that is the brainchild of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

According to Saratok MP Tan Sri William Mawan, the local folk have been living with one another in harmony long before the concept was made known.

In this regard, he hopes that the communities here would continue to maintain and treasure the spirit of ‘unity amidst diversity’.

“Here, the Chinese, the Malays and the Ibans can sit together at one table in any coffee shop, or any event for that matter. We all enjoy and co- organise every festival.

“This are just some examples that signify the strong racial harmony and unity here.

“When it comes to members of the Saratok community, the sharing and cooperation in organising activities have become a culture; the basis of unity,” he spoke at the closing of the Gawai-Raya celebrations here on Saturday night, which hosted over 1,800 people from all walks of life.

Moreover Mawan, who is also Pakan assemblyman, advised his constituents against destroying this racial harmony by getting involved in petty politics and infighting.

“What’s important is for the people to have a stable political situation – one that is conducive to bringing changes and implementing policies for the socio- economic well-being of the people.

Saratok District Officer Mohd Ikmal Abdullah, Malaysian Muslim Consumers Association board of advisors chairman Tunku Azwil Tunku Abdul Razak and the event’s co- organising chairmen Pemanca Edward Gella Baul and Pemanca Sahari Gani were also present at the event in SJKC Min Syn hall on Saturday night, which was hosted by a group of local community leaders.
