‘Improve teaching method to develop students’
MIRI: Teachers are told to transform and improve their way of teaching as it is imperative in developing their students’ ability in learning and shaping the latter’s personality and attitude.
State Education director Rakayah Madon gave this advice when speaking at the 56th Miri Division Teacher’s Day Celebration at Parkcity Everly Hotel here on Saturday.
“Teaching students is like constructing a building. The foundation must be firm so that it could withstand any impact and pressure from all directions. Similarly, we must not take lightly the education of every child under our responsibility.
“In the first four years of their pre- school education, building a firm foundation is vital because under the right guidance, it would be with them forever. The right guidance and suitable teaching method will not only build their mind positively, but it would connect the mind and their body which will then shape their personality that will bring them

far into their future undertaking. Most importantly, teachers must be colour- blind when executing their tasks,” she said.
She reminded that teaching is a noble profession that develops human capital, and that humans will be the future of the nation.
Nonetheless, while teachers’ contribution to the nation’s development cannot be measured and are invaluable; they deserve to be honoured yearly worldwide, she added.
Meanwhile, Rakayah lauded the many great achievements by the schools in Miri division in academics, co- curricular activities, sports and so on, adding that the achievements would not be possible without the hard work, perseverance and cooperation by the school, principals, teachers, students and parents.
The 56th Miri Division Teacher’s Day Celebration was attended by hundreds of teachers representing all primary and secondary schools in the division.
Miri Education officer Dr Hassan Hasbollah, his deputy Alias Ngah, Miri Division Principals Council chairperson Koh Chee Kiat and Miri Division Headmasters Council chairperson James Nibong attended the function.
One of the highlights of the celebration saw teachers – Norsyamsyafikhoh Abd Ghani of SM Sains Miri and Roshaidin Othman of SK South – receive the Ikon Guru awards for their contribution to the teaching profession.
The Tokoh Guru award, the highest recognition, was received by Tie Hung Teck, who is a former headmaster of SJK(C) Chung Hua Krokop.
