KOTA SAMARAHAN: The Teacher Education Institute Tun Abdul Razak Campus (IPGKTAR) is placing more emphasis on creativity and innovation among its lecturers and trainees.

According to its Department of Research and Innovation in Professionalism of Teacher Education head Dr Clarence Jerry, the campus could serve as a platform to help both lecturers and trainees apply innovative ideas into their teaching methods, adding that one of the ways to encourage this was through its ‘Innovation Day’.

In this regard, he was pleased to see the level of participation for this year’s event, which gathered 38 teams competing for honours in the ‘7th Teaching and Learning Innovation ( PDP)’ competition.

“The Innovation Day is the best platform for the participants to share ideas and good practices with one another, especially in teaching methods and learning practices. At the same time, it also promotes the culture of innovation (at the campus).

“There are major improvements this year, in terms of quality and presentations. I commend the management and all IPGKTAR lecturers for their strong support and commitment in ensuring the success of Innovation Day 2017,” he said at the event, which took place at the campus’ Sri Samarahan Hall recently.

The ‘Innovation Day’ this year, themed ‘Innovation — The Pillar of Organisation’s Excellence’, gathered the trainees and lecturers who displayed innovative ways of relaying information as well as educating the students in classrooms.

Clarence said the event also provided them an avenue for discourse, encouraging them to continually enhance the quality of the profession.

“I must congratulate the organising committee for their hard work in gathering groups to showcase their creativity and innovation.”

The teams from Health and Physical Education Department and IPGKTAR Resource Centre won the ‘Innovation Tournament’ category for lecturers, which offered the Hamsiah Challenge Trophy.

A team of teacher trainees majoring in mathematics came out tops in the ‘Students’ category with their ‘Super ROUNDING Hero’ entry, earning them the ‘Rijeng Challenge Trophy’.
