BINTULU: The 1Malaysia Community ( K1M) plays a vital role in uniting the people against any defamation, sedition and racial issues spread by irresponsible parties.

Bintulu MP Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing said the big role of K1M is to counter the rising issues that could create disunity, and also to disseminate accurate information on the ground.

He said the dissemination of information on social media is ‘nothing new’, but there is a need for the community to verify such information.

“Thus K1M needs to move smoothly in its efforts to inculcate local practices to become examples for the new generation,” said Tiong, whose text of speech was read by his personal officer Azman Abdul Rahman at the launch of ‘ Negaraku@ Community’ K1M Sebezau programme in Kampung Baru’s security and development committee (JKKK) building on Saturday.

Tiong added that although there are more than 30 ethnic groups in Sarawak, the people are able to live together peacefully and the prevailing unity has become the backbone of the existing harmony.

Meanwhile, K1M Sebezau chairman Ali Sabri Saber Ali Khan said the programme, which had been rebranded, saw more locals participating in the activities such as patriotism talks by Bintulu Information Department officer Rosnani Mohdar, stress management talk by Bintulu Health Office occupational therapist Medeline Susie Sumping, karaoke contest, fashion show and lucky draws.

Among those present were Temenggong Abang Suhaili Abang Mohamad, Pemanca Rosli Kamaruddin, Penghulu Mahli Hamzah, Kampung Baru Tengah headman Derahman Kipli Sisi, Kampung Baru Laut headman Sikong Lusek, Kampung Baru Darat headman Abdul Rahim Assan, and Kampung Kemunting headman Abdul Kassim Hamzah.
