NGO donates items to Samariang fire victims

-

KUCHING: Hope Place did not hesitate to help fire victims in Samariang upon receiving a phone call from them recently.

The non- governmental organisation ( NGO) founder Kelvin Wan and his staff immediately prepared necessary items including rice and cooking oil for the fire victims, represented by Rami Kapol.

The fire, which struck on Wednesday, left eight people homeless – the youngest of whom is aged three, said a statement yesterday, quoting Rami.

On Friday, Cats FM interviewed Wan from 9am to 10am.

“Due to the slow economy, Hope Place has lost many donors. We need more help from the media. Cats FM can help promote Hope Place’s charity works too,” said Wan in the statement.

Presently, it needs 150 boxes of biscuits, 150 boxes of noodles, 150 bottles of 2kg- packs/ bottles of cooking oil, 70 packs of milk powder for children aged one to three, and 100 packs of milk powder for children aged four to six.

Hope Place currently helps the poor and less- fortunate families by contributing some essential food items like rice, cooking oil, sugar, salt, biscuits and noodles. Many of these families or individuals barely earn enough to get through the month. Hence, many are grateful with the assistance of these basic necessities delivered to them.

For families caring for children with special needs, as well as elderly or disabled individuals, the NGO provides milk powder, oats and diapers as well.

Hope Place carries out aid deliveries once every two months. Presently, it supports more than 170 families.

For more information on how to help, Hope Place can be reached at 013- 5672775 ( hotline) and 082- 683378 ( office) from 8.30am to noon and 2pm to 5pm Mondays to Fridays, as well as on Saturdays, between 9am and noon. Individuals who donate to Hope Place can request for receipts from the staff.
