Lee urges more talks on OSH, environment management
KUCHING: Seminars focusing on Occupational Safety and Health ( OSH) and Environment Management Systems should be conducted throughout Sarawak more frequently.
According to National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (Niosh) chairman Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye, the awareness of OSH should be further promoted to enable companies or organisations to improve their employees’ morale and avoid workplace accidents.
“An accident is an unplanned incident that can lead to injuries or fatalities,” said Lee when officiating at the ‘OSHE Management Systems; Stakeholders Policies and Management System as a Tool’ seminar at a leading hotel here yesterday.
Employers, he said further, should take the initiative to observe the OSHE management system as it is their responsibility to ensure the safety and health of their employees and the general public.
He added that despite Malaysia being among the leading countries practising OSHE, there is still room for improvements to the existing standards; hence the need to organise more seminars on OSHE.
“We have to bring the standard to a higher and new level,” said Lee, adding that the one- day seminar was jointly organised by Niosh Certification Sdn Bhd and TM TEC Academy ( M) Sdn Bhd.
On another note, Lee admitted that the people in Sarawak never failed to impress him in terms of unity and solidarity.
“Economic progress will have no meaning without unity,” he added.
Also speaking was TM TEC Academy ( M) Sdn Bhd managing director Richard Song Swee Jin, who hoped that all the delegates at the seminar would learn something new.
“I hope that all of you will be able to gain many benefits and information especially when it comes to managing the safety, health and environment aspect,” he added.
Also present were Niosh executive director Zahrim Osman and TM TAC Academy ( M) Sdn Bhd director Lawrence Lee Chin Fook.
