KOTA KINABALU: Two housewives were among three people arrested over the weekend by police for drug possession.

City police chief ACP M Chandra said the women aged 31 and 56, were arrested at Inanam and at Kampung Sembulan Lama, respectively, and the drugs confiscated from them were worth about RM12,000.

The third suspect was a 54-yearold man and he too was picked up from Kampung Sembulan Lama, Chandra said, adding that all three are remanded until Aug 4 to facilitate investigations.

According to Chandra, the police first arrested the 31-yearold housewife at Inanam at about 4pm on July 28 and found a box containing pills suspected to be Erimin Five.

“Police have been observing the woman who was acting suspiciously in front of a laundromat in Inanam. We believed that she was waiting for a customer,” he said, adding that the woman later led police to a rented house also in Inanam and from there the team found more Erimin Five pills and a plastic bag filled with clear powder suspected to be ketamin.

In total, police recovered 65 pills and 102.78g of suspected ketamin from the woman and the case is now being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952 and Section 39A(1) of the same act.

Chandra said the woman also tested positive for drugs and that she had a prior criminal record.

On the case at Kampung Sembulan Lama, Chandra said the police raided a house on suspicion that the inhabitants were drug pushers.

“During questioning, the woman admitted that there was syabu in the house and it was kept in the toilet. She then removed a black bag from the toilet and handed it over to the police. Upon checking, the police found 57 small packets of clear crystal-like substance suspected to be syabu,” he said and disclosed the packets weighed about 33.80g.

The couple was then arrested and are being investigated under Section 39A( 2) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952.

“The drug menace is a national problem and must be nipped in the bud.

“The district police would like to record its appreciation to those who are constantly working with us to combat this menace,” Chandra said.
