Kampung Simpok lass crowned Miss Tagang 2017, voted Miss Popular
KUCHING: Experience in local beauty pageant circuits gave Jacqualine Ayong that competitive edge over 11 other finalists of Miss Tagang 2017 at Kampung Semadang near here last weekend.
The native of Kampung Simpok in Padawan did not only clinch the coveted crown, but was also voted ‘Miss Popular’.
For her win, Jacqualine took home RM1,000, a RM5,000 scholarship from UCSI University, the Miss Tagang 2017 crown and sash, as well as a pewter trophy. Her ‘ Miss Popular’ title earned her another RM500.
The beauty pageant, which entered its second edition this year, was among the highlights of the third annual ‘ Semadang Tagang Festival’ at Kampung Semadang near here.
The runner-up was Vivian Lin Winston, who walked away with RM700 and a RM3,000 scholarship from UCSI University, while Felicia Michelle took third place and received RM500 as well as RM2,000 in scholarship from UCSI University.
All 12 contestants are from Kuching, Samarahan, Bau, Serian and Sri Aman.
This year’s winner was crowned by Miss Tagang 2016, Cincilin Voon Tarah – witnessed by guests- of- honour Assistant Minister of Transportation Datuk Dr Jerip Susil and his wife Datin Lee Chai Foong.
In his speech earlier, Dr Jerip who is Mambong assemblyman lauded the organiser on the inclusion of the beauty pageant to the annual festival.
“Through the competition, both the contestants and the spectators could enhance their knowledge of the river system, its importance and also the need to conserve and preserve our rivers and streams,” he said.
Dr Jerip said he personally recommended to the organiser that the questions slated for the contestants would touch on river conservation, environment, fish species in the river and ways to preserve and protect the river eco- system for future generations.
“Such awareness is not only for the contestants of the beauty pageant, but also to those who come to watch the contest,” he said.
