Over 110,000 flock to Kuching Food Fair Festival in first 2 nights
KUCHING: The annual Kuching Food Fair Festival has already attracted over 110,000 visitors in only its first two nights, with locals and foreigners flocking to savour the numerous delicacies on offer.
According to Kuching South City Council ( MBKS), which is the event organiser, the threeweek long festival has so far seen a total of 110,093 since it began on Friday.
MBKS senior councillor Simon Lau, who is heading the Traffic and Engineering Committee, said many people who had migrated to other countries missed the city a great deal.
Because of this sentiment, he said many of them would return here for the festival just to be able to savour what they had been missing.
Lau, who is also an advisor for the event, visited the food fair on Saturday together with a friend who has been living in Australia for the past 20 years.
His friend, Tiong Ping, specially arranged to fly back here from Melbourne together with some close friends just for the event.
“There is no way I could resist the temptation to come back after seeing images and information regarding the Kuching Food Fair Festival on social media.
“To me, the festival offers a platform for people from all walks of life to mingle, and this manifests unity in diversity and racial tolerance,” said Sibu-born Tiong, adding that she and her family had been paying attention to the development and events in Sarawak despite having lived overseas for years.
Meanwhile, Lau said he spoke with stall operators during his visit on Saturday and, based on their feedback, most of them were satisfied with the overall arrangement of stalls as many were able to sell everything by 9pm.
“It is the most competitive Kuching Food Fair Festival ever with 300 stalls lining up the vicinity of Dewan Masyarakat to give the best for Kuchingites and those from outside Kuching. Judging by the long queues, many food items are popular among the visitors,” he said.
