Govt to set up monitoring centre for KL Sentral – Zahid
KUALA LUMPUR: The government proposes to establish a centralised monitoring centre for KL Sentral to, among others, enhance the overall security at the nation’s main public transportation hub.
Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said yesterday he had instructed Home Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Alwi Ibrahim to prepare a proposal in a month for him to table to the Cabinet.
Alwi is also chairman of the Central Committee on Prime Targets.
Ahmad Zahid spoke to reporters after a working visit to KL Sentral and taking a ride on the Mass Rapid Transit train from the Muzium Negara station to the Merdeka station.
He was accompanied by Inspector- General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar and MRCB managing director Tan Sri Mohamad Salim Fateh Din.

In this regard, we have agreed to propose a centralised monitoring system for synchronisation with the existing system to link it directly to the police.
the monitoring centre was a long-term measure to step up the security aspects at prime-target locations such as KL Sentral.
“In this regard, we have agreed to propose a centralised monitoring system for synchronisation with the existing system to link it directly to the police. This is to enable centralised monitoring and the police can act directly. It is needless to have several levels of communications,” he said.

“This is to determine between direct funding from the Treasury or through collaboration with the private sector or governmentlinked companies,” he said.
Ahmad Zahid said that as a short-term measure to step up security at the transportation hub that sees visits by almost 200,000 people daily, he had called for an increase in the number of auxiliary policemen stationed there in a month from now. — Bernama
