Shania Twain’s new song rips into ex-husband for affair
LOS ANGELES: For singer Shania Twain, it was belated vengeance as she ripped into her ex-husband for his affair with her best pal.
Talk about singing about a double whammy.
Shania is back with her first studio album in 15 years.
Straight off with her first single “Life’s About to Get Good”, she fires a salvo at her exhusband Robert “Mutt” Lange for bedding her best pal.
“I wasn’t just broken, I was shattered. I trusted you so much, you’re all that mattered,” the 51-year- old sang in the opening verse, opening up about the heartbreak that she endured after the music producer cheated on her with her best friend at the time, Marie-Anne Thiebaud. She also hinted at his affair with the line, “It killed me that you’d give your life to be with her.”
Shania also made sure that she took a major dig at her cheating ex by giving him a small cameo in the music video for the song. In the video, Shania is surrounded by maids and movers who are helping her redecorate and get rid of all of the painful memories in her home, and one of them presented Shania with a framed photo of her and Mutt, but when the mover flipped the photo frame upside down, Mutt disappeared from the photo.
If that video cameo doesn’t heal her hurting heart, nothing will.
Shania first rose to fame in the 1990s and her talent caught the attention of Mutt, who went on to produce some of her biggest hit songs like “That Don’t Impress Me Much”, “Man! I Feel Like a Woman!”, and “You’re Still the One”.
But her new record, titled Now, was recorded without her ex’s help and she admitted being nervous about returning to the studio.
“There’s so many challenges in coming back to something you haven’t done in a long time,” she said. “I’m not about to give up now!”
