SARIKEI: The public swimming pool here, which has been closed for the past eight months, is now open to the public.

Repok assemblyman Dato Sri Huang Tiong Sii said he was delighted that repair work on the only swimming pool in the district had been completed and ready for use by the public.

Manager of Sarikei Civic Centre, Andrew Wong Pak Ung, who oversees the management of the swimming pool said he was relieved that the swimming pool had been rectified.

The repair work was timeconsuming. It looked like it was a general overhaul, he added.

The faulty pumps had been repaired, internal wiring and lockers replaced, and the wash room and other facilities given a facelift at a total cost of RM200,000, he said.

Part of the cost was financed with an allocation obtained from the government, but the bigger portion came from the Repok assemblyman himself, Andrew said.

“Without Huang’s personal contribution, the public would have to wait much longer to use the facility,” he added.

Meanwhile, the swimming pool opens daily from 2.30pm to 7.30pm on Tuesday to Sunday. It closes every Monday and public holidays.

As usual, Wednesday is for women only.
