KUCHING: Timber trucks are once again using Murum Road despite repeated orders by the state authorities to logging companies to stop their vehicles using the road.

People in the area have complained of the danger these tucks laden with logs pose to other road users and the damage they cause to the road surface.

Several efforts to stop the trucks using the road by erecting barriers across the road had proved futile in the past as the heavy vehicles simply tore down the structures.

It was only after severe warning from former chief minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem and the erection of stronger barriers that the trucks stopped using the road.

However, pictures sent by a reader to The Borneo Post yesterday showed trucks travelling along the Murum road again with remnants of the barrier built left by the roadside.

the trucks resumed plying the road.

Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Masing who is also Minister of Infrastructure Development and Transportation when alerted to the situation said he will inform the police and Road Transport Department of the presence of timber trucks on the road.

“These overloaded trucks are not supposed to use this road. If they continue to use it in no time Murum Road will be damaged and furthermore their presence will endanger other road users. This cannot go on. The relevant timber companies must comply with the rules of the road or be penalised. I don’t take this breach lightly,” he said.
