KUCHING: Three collection centres - one each in Lawas, Tanjung Manis and Samarahan - will soon be built at a cost of RM15 million.

Assistant Minister of ECommerce Datuk Mohd Naroden Majais, said the centre would be used to collect produce and products, product grading, packaging, promotion management and advertisement.

“The government will build collection centres in the three areas at a cost of RM15 million for a start in order to help our entrepreneurs. The centres are also venues for the sale of local products both online and off line,” he said.

Small and Medium Enterprise ( SME) Development, said this at the launching of Samarahanlevel Malaysian Mellenium Entrepreneurs Consortium ( MMEC), here, recently.

He added that such centre was necessary to help entrepreneurs sell their products beyond the local market, and urged entrepreneurs, particularly those in the food industry, to look at the rising population as an opportunity to expand their business and try to penetrate the overseas market.

According to him, MMEC was even willing to assist the local entrepreneurs to market their products in Kuwait, other Arab countries and European countries.

The potential to market such products in Arab countries, Europe and China is great, he added.

Naroden also hoped that entrepreneurs in Samarahan could emulate the success of their counterparts in Miri who managed to import 1.2 tonnes of food and beverages ( F& B) worth about RM2 million after similar event with MMEC in May.
