BINTULU: Members of the Sarawak Kenyah National Association yesterday paid a courtesy call on Bintulu Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing at the latter’s People’s Service Centre.

While expressing their support for the top leadership of the Progressive Democratic Party ( PDP), the visit was also intended for the visitors to ask for Tiong’s consideration to retain the incumbent MP for Baram Anyi Ngau as a candidate for the upcoming 14th general election.

The group comprising members of the association, Youth and Women chiefs of PDP Telang Usan including its exco members, and community leaders in Baram was headed by the chairman of the association who is also Murum assemblyman Kennedy Chukpai Ugon.

In his short speech on behalf of the association, Chukpai expressed his appreciation and gratitude for Tiong’s commitment and concern over the wellbeing of the local people.

He also expressed his undivided support for Tiong’s leadership as the president of PDP and hoped Tiong will consider retaining Anyi as a candidate for the parliamentary constituency of Baram as requested by the people in the constituency. The request, he said, was based on the excellent record of the Baram MP in providing services to the people in the area.

“During his tenure as Baram MP, he (Anyi) had provided his best services in helping to solve the issues faced by the local people,” he said.

Chukpai also told Tiong not to worry about the opposition in Baram which he ( Chukpai) described as not as strong compared to Barisan Nasional (BN).

Meanwhile Tiong said as president of PDP, he had discussed the matter with the top leaders of the federal and state BN including the PDP Supreme Council and they unanimously agreed to retain Anyi to contest in Baram in the 14th general election.

He did not deny the protest that he received over Anyi’s renomination from several parties earlier, but said until now, only one name has been submitted to the top leadership.

Tiong in the meantime asked members of the Sarawak Kenyah National Association, especially in PDP Telang Usan and Baram to give their full cooperation and support to Anyi in the general election to enable him to secure a bigger winning majority.
