Longhouse in Limbang bags RM80,000 in prizes at Anugerah Desa Perdana 2017

LIMBANG: Rumah Satu, Kuala Mendalam brought glory to this division when it placed second in the ‘ Longhouse’ category at the national-level ‘ Anugerah Desa Perdana’ (ADP) 2017 at Putra World Trade Centre ( PWTC) in Kuala Lumpur recently.

The feat earned the longhouse a cash prize of RM30,000 and RM50,000 in projects.

The winner of this category was Rumah Bengau of Nanga Sut in Kapit, earning the longhouse a cash prize of RM50,000 and projects worth RM100,000. At third place was Rumah Along Kang in Sri Aman, which received RM20,000 as cash prize and RM30,000 in projects.

Prizes were presented by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

The competitio­n, run by the Rural and Regional Developmen­t Ministry, also had other categories.

Kampung Pengkalan Tereh in Johor was named winner of the ‘Orang Asli Village’ category, while Kampung Baru Kemasik in Terengganu was the winner for the ‘ Traditiona­l Village’ category.

The winning village in Johor received RM50,000 as a cash prize and RM100,000 in projects, while the traditiona­l settlement in Terengganu received RM100,000 as a cash prize and RM600,000 in projects.

The objective of the ADP is to appreciate and recognise the village leaders who have administra­ted their villages with excellence.

It is also meant to materialis­e the sustainabl­e village transforma­tion programme, instil patriotism in the villagers and improve the socio- economic status of these villages.

This year, a total of 582 villages took part at district-level, 159 at state-level and 23 were selected for national-level.

Limbang Division Community Developmen­t Department (Kemas) officer Mohd Khairul Amree Abdul Rahman and his staff brought the longhouse folk of Rumah Satu to the event in Kuala Lumpur.
