150 attend Youth Leadership Training Seminar

KUCHING: Around 150 members of 15 Interact and two Rotaract Kuching Clubs attended the Youth Leadership Training Seminar 2017 here recently.

Past district governor Andre Suharto officiated at the one- day seminar organised by Rotary Club of Kuching Central ( RCKC).

He shared his experience with youths on his role as a district governor in 2014 and 2015 as well as his years in Rotary.

RCKC president Benjamin Lo said this was the fi rst time the club organised a seminar for all Interact and Rotaract Clubs sponsored by four Kuching Rotary Clubs.

“The training was intended for members of the board of directors for each club to learn how to lead their members to carry out their projects successfully.

“Interact clubs are for students aged 13 to 18 years old, while Rotaract Clubs are for those aged 18 to 30 years old, both sponsored by Rotary Club,” he said in a statement yesterday.

There are 15 Interact Clubs and three Rotaract Clubs here, which are part of Rotary District 3310 comprising Sarawak, Sabah, Johor, Melaka, Labuan, Singapore, and Brunei.

Seminar organising chairman Michael Kuan said the club invited two district youth committee chairs to assist with the leadership training.

“District youth chair past president Li Guang Sheng and district Interact chair rotarian James Lee from Singapore were in charge of all youth clubs and Interact clubs respectively in District 3310.

“They were joined by two interactors from Singapore to share their knowledge and experiences with Kuching Interactors and Rotaractors.

“Several local Rotarians also assisted as speakers and facilitators of the various sessions,” he said.

RCKC will continue to organise more youth- oriented projects, in addition to their community projects such as free cataract screenings and rectification operations, clean water supply and basic solar lighting systems, and school kits for children from lower income families, particularly those in rural areas.
