KUCHING: Team HGA are looking to secure their first win in the Samarahan Country Club ( SCC) Inter-Team Match Play Championship when they take on Brothers in today’s final.

They have made it to the final three times but ended up playing second fiddle.

“We will not be putting too much thoughts on winning because with too high expectations, that will put unnecessary pressure on us to perform.

“We will just be going all out to play and enjoy the game and I think Brothers, whom we have beaten in the earlier round, will come up with new strategy and line- up to beat us tomorrow,” said HGA captain Kenny Chin yesterday.

He said they will not be taking Brothers lightly today even though they defeated the latter earlier in the competition as every new match is a new challenge.

According to him, HGA have also made it to the final in the KGS Inter-Team Match Play Championship on severa l occasions but always ended up being second best.

Chin noted that the SCC championship is a di f ferent competition from the KGS InterTeam Match Play Championship as it also involves teams and players from other clubs.

Meanwhile, Brothers captain Then Su Yew said his team will try their best to beat HGA and avenge their 2- 3 defeat in the earlier round.

“Being underdogs, we have nothing to lose and just play our normal game and we are quite surprised and feel very happy to be able to enter the final after losing to HGA and making a strong comeback.

“In fact, we had expected to go out in the second or third round and making our first final in this championship is a big achievement for us since we were formed about eight years ago.

“A win be a bonus for us,” added Then.

The ultimate prize for this championship today i s the Quality Concrete Chal lenge Trophy and a prize money of RM10,000.

Apart from today’s final, two side events will be organised, one an invitational for Quality Concrete Holdings Berhad’s corporate clients, bankers and friends from Australia, Singapore and Kuala Lumpur and the other for the matchplay Losers Pool.
