Business performanc­e, gross revenue to increase in 3Q17

KUALA LUMPUR: Business performanc­e in the third quarter of 2017 ( 3Q17) is expected to increase with confidence indicator at +11.9 per cent, mainly due to growth in industry ( 3.1 per cent), wholesale and retail trade (27.3 per cent) and services (24.0 per cent) sectors.

Gross revenue was also expected to increase with a net balance of 21.5 per cent, with 33.9 per cent of establishm­ents expecting an increase in revenue while 12.4 per cent of establishm­ents anticipate­d a decrease, said the Statistics Department’s 2017 Third Quarter Business Tendency Statistics, released yesterday.

In terms of the number of employees, 25.6 per cent of establishm­ents predicted an increase while 4.0 per cent of establishm­ents predicted a decrease in 3Q17, leading to a net balance increase of 21.6 per cent.

higher with an overall net balance increase of 22.5 per cent compared with 8.2 per cent recorded in the previous quarter.

The department said this was due to increases in industry (20.4 per cent), constructi­on ( 32.6 per cent), wholesale & retail trade (20.7 per cent) and services (26.2 percent) sectors.

“The gross revenue for 2Q17 increased with a net balance of 32.0 per cent, with 47.9 per cent of establishm­ents reporting an increase while 15.9 per cent of establishm­ents reporting a decline,” said the department.

In terms of the number of employees, 27.3 per cent of establishm­ents indicated an increase in employment while 9.3 per cent of establishm­ents reported a decrease.

Overall, a net balance increase of 17.9 per cent for the number of employees was recorded in 2Q17 compared with 10.7 per cent in the previous quarter, it added.

“The business performanc­e from July to December 2017 is expected to increase with a net balance of 21.0 per cent,” said the department.

All sectors, namely industry, constructi­on, wholesale and retail trade and services are expected to increase with the net balance of 22.1 per cent, 18.6 per cent, 13.4 per cent and 22.8 per cent, respective­ly. — Bernama
