Slain bank manager’s mother lodges report against lawyer

-

KUCHING: Law Boh Ing, 66, mother of the slain bank manager, Wong Jing Kui, has lodged a report at the Sungai Maong police station on Aug 28 against a Kuching-based lawyer.

Law claimed the lawyer has acted beyond their ( family) instructions regarding the custody of their grandchild and for allegedly failing to respond to their communication attempts.

The lawyer’s fee of RM30,000, she said, was paid in three installments in 2012 from funds raised among their relatives.

“I am very sad, lawyers should have a conscience and fulfill their responsibilities once their fees are paid,” Law told a press conference here yesterday. Her husband Wong Tiew Ming, 71, and daughter Wong Hie Huong, all from Sibu, were also present.

After futile attempts to contact the lawyer, the family recently took the initiative to visit his office in Kuching and found out from other tenants that the office had not been operational for the past one year.

Wong Jing Kui was found murdered with multiple stab wounds in his bedroom in Sibu on June 14, 2012.

His wife, Ling Hang Tsyr, her boyfriend Tiong King Guan and a hired killer Ling Hoe Ing were arrested for plotting to murder him (Jing Kui).

Ing pleaded guilty on Oct 1, 2013, and was sentenced to 16 years in jail by the Sibu High Court under Section 304 of the Penal Code for culpable homicide not amounting to murder.

The Court of Appeal in Kuching on Feb 10, 2015 held that Tiong and Ling be charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code for abetting the murder of Jing Kui.

Tiong has failed to appear in court and has been missing since.

Meanwhile, Ling’s trial has commenced and is pending judgment in Sibu on Oct 27.
