Administration approach should be emulated by grassroots leaders
PONTIAN: The bottom-up administration approach undertaken by the federal government should not necessarily be practised at the top level, but should be an example emulated by grassroots leaders.
Deputy International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Ahmad Maslan said this approach seemed to be more open and transparent, especially taking into consideration the ideas and views of the public.
“This bottom-up approach is necessary because the people know what they want, they know better what is happening at the grassroots, and with this National Transformation 2050 or TN50 dialogue session, they will be able to witness the government’s openness to public opinion.
“Local community leaders or heads of government departments and agencies can emulate this administration approach in listening to the idea of their staff and the people and hence improve the administrative structure,” he told reporters after speaking at the TN50 Open Dialogue programme here yesterday.
He said the same approach was being undertaken by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak in gathering views and suggestions on the 2018 Budget to be tabled in Parliament next month.
“This is not the first time this is happening. The prime minister has done this several years before. This is important because the government really wants the people to get involved in determining the direction of the country.
“What is interesting is that the views are received from people from all walks of life, which are ultimately formed into a policy that can guarantee general wellbeing of the people and the country,” said the Pontian MP.
Meanwhile, Ahmad said the ministry’s focus at the TN50 dialogue session was to get more youths to venture into entrepreneurship and no longer live as ‘salary earners’.
“By 2050, we want to see our country become an entrepreneurship country where the sector will become the main source of income of our people,” he explained. — Bernama
