Prisoner gets another five years’ jail for Daesh postings on Facebook

KUALA LUMPUR: A prisoner who is serving his five years’ jail sentence for Daesh militant-related offences, was sentenced to another five years’ imprisonme­nt for having posted Daeshrelat­ed material on his Facebook page, last March.

High Court Judge Datuk Mohd Sofian Abd Razak meted the sentence on Mohammad Sabri Mat Zain, 46, after he pleaded guilty to posting the material on his Facebook page under the name ‘Pecula Naga’.

He was charged under Section 130JB (1)(b) of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum jail term of seven years and fine, if convicted.

The court also ordered Mohammad Sabri to serve the sentence from yesterday.

The former silat teacher in Kelantan committed the offence at his home at Lot 2975, Kampung Batu 7, Telok Kandis Salor, Kota Bharu, Kelantan, between 7.55am and 1.20pm on March 21, the same day he was arrested for committing the two other Daeshrelat­ed offences.

In mitigation, the accused who was clad a in red prisoner shirt and unrepresen­ted, requested for a lighter punishment as he had repented and regretted his wrongdoing­s.

However, deputy public prosecutor Muhammad Fadzlan Mohd Noor pressed for appropriat­e punishment.

According to the facts of the case, a team of policemen raided the premises and arrested the accused and inspection on his mobile phone found that he had posted Daesh-related materials on his Facebook page. — Bernama
