Ministry has crucial role in TN50 vision, says Dawos
KUCHING: The Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water plays an important role in drafting the National Transformation 2050 ( TN50) vision.
Its deputy minister Datuk Seri Dr James Dawos Mamit said the ministry was formed to ensure each development achieved does not affect environmental quality in the country.
He added that although the country only contributes 0.6 per cent to carbon dioxide emissions worldwide compared to China, the United States of America and other European countries, the usage of green technology cannot be ignored.
“The TN50 dialogue with the public is important for the government. They ( public) give suggestions or creative ideas which can be brought forward for consideration. So for this ministry, the role is for anything related to energy, green technology and water, any issues and action to retain environment quality for the future generation,” he said at a press conference after the TN50 Dialogue session at Universiti Teknologi Mara ( UiTM) Sarawak yesterday.
Meanwhile, Dawos who is also Puncak Borneo MP said that his ministry is also actively promoting the use of green technology in renewable energy production and water treatment nationwide.
A study has been conducted in Kudat, Sabah, to use green technology to produce 300 megawatts of electricity using wind power. In Peninsular Malaysia, the use of solar energy is being promoted to generate electricity to reduce carbon dioxide gas emissions.
In Sarawak, the building of dams is among the best steps to retain and sustain environment quality.
“All issues relating to the environment arises from climate change which is caused by pollution. Though we are not the ones contributing to climate change, we must put green technology into practice.”
Though the use of green technology is higher, for the sake of the future generation, it is not an obstacle the government cannot overcome in implementing it.
Present at the event were the ministry’s deputy secretarygeneral (water and management) Datuk Seri Tan Yew Chong and UiTM Sarawak rector Datuk Dr Jamil Hamali.
