KUCHING: Successful Orang Ulus who refuse to help the community have been chided for their stance.

Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau said as a minority community, Orang Ulus need to take care of each other.

He stressed successful members of the Orang Ulu community must not forget their roots, as the community needs them.

“If a member of the Orang Ulu community is in need of help during times such as a death of a family member, I am sure the person will need the community

to help them in many ways.

“If he or she never gets involved in the activities organised by their own community, I think it would be hard for the community to help the person as no one knows the person,” he told reporters when receiving donations from the Sarawak Kenyah National Association ( PKKS) and its women’s movement for Long Aton fire victims yesterday.

PKKS advisor Datuk Stephen Wan Ullok handed over the donations to Dennis, who will pass them on to the villagers.

On Aug 16, a section of the Long Aton village comprising 22 houses was completely razed. An estimated RM2 million is needed to rebuild that section of the village.
