KUCHING: The 3rd Grow Out Event & Sakai Jumbo Tosai Challenge 2017, known as the biggest Japanese Koi (carp) show in East Malaysia, is in town this weekend at Vivacity Megamall starting from today.

Organised by the AK Nishikigoi, the three- day event will feature fully imported Japanese Koi from Japan as well as special promotion sales on the different koi varieties and koi feed.

However, the main highlight of the show is none other than the Grow Out Event and Sakai Jumbo Tosai Challenge tomorrow ( Sept 9) where nearly 170 Japanese koi will be competing for the coveted title of grand champion.

“We have around 50 participants who come not only from Sarawak and Kuala Lumpur, but also those from Singapore, Sabah and Indonesia,” said AK Nishikigoi owner Kelvin Sim.

“This year, our number of entries has doubled compared to last year where there were only 80 Japanese koi entries.” The competing kois, he said, are of different varies such as the Kohaku, Showa, Sanke, Hiutsuri and Kujaku.

“They will be judged by four renowned judges from Japan; namely Ryuki Narita, Hiroshi Mano, Tomoyoshi Kondo and Kentaro Sakai who will be judging the koi based on criteria such as body conformation, colour, pattern and quality,” Sim explained.

During the competition, he said the public are welcome to drop by to view the Japanese koi on display. After the competition, the special promotion sales of Japanese koi as well as koi feed will continue on Sept 10.
