Bomba holds camp to educate community leaders in managing fire outbreak

-

LIMBANG: The ‘Summer Camp’ held at the Fire and Rescue Department station here could create greater awareness among community leaders in managing fire outbreak in their respective villages.

Bomba director Nor Hisham Mohammad said the Summer Camp programme was among their strategies in educating the people at the grassroots level.

He said the programme was important to enable the target groups to have indepth knowledge in fire outbreak management including how to put out the fire and taking other initiatives to prevent fire outbreak.

For example he said when building new house units in traditional longhouses, there should be a firebreak, besides the need to purchase fire extinguishers for the longhouses.

“Readily available fire extinguisher is effective in dousing the fire.

“The villagers too must have the initiative to buy fire extinguishers and not just wait for others to donate such gadgets,” he said at the closing of the Summer Camp here recently.

Twenty-five people comprising community leaders took part in the three- day programme.

Among those present at the closing ceremony were deputy District officer Hamidah Halpi, Bomba Zone 7 Limbang chief Edmund Dmahai Amboh, head of Limbang and Lawas Bomba station respectively Tawang Lingem and Zaki Husin and head of the Summer Camp participants Penghulu Robert Kunyu.
