Next bird singing contest at Petronas Sports Village

MIRI: Kelab Pekicau Miri, a club for bird singing enthusiast­s is keen for the next bird singing contest ‘ 2017 Internatio­nal Bon’ to be a successful tourist draw.

Its president Mohamad Azhar Bujang said the contest is proposed to be held at Petronas Sports Village on Nov 12.

“The first bird singing competitio­n in Sarawak was held in Bekenu in 2015.

“Most participan­ts were locals with some entries from Brunei,” he told The Borneo Post recently.

He recalled that a similar bird singing contest last Sunday was held at a car park next to Chemara Boutique Hotel in Lutong.

It attracted some 200 participan­ts from Indonesia, Sabah, Brunei and locals.

He is looking forward to the next bird singing contest which will allow bird owners throughout Borneo to showcase their skill in training birds.

The contest will be divided into three magpie- robin categories of Murai Batu Kepala Hitam, Murai Batu Kepala Putih and Murai Kampung.

The top three winners in all categories will receive similar prizes of RM500 for the winner followed by RM300 ( second) and RM100 (third) plus trophy and certificat­e of participat­ion each.

There will be a ‘ Best of The Best’ award for the overall winner who will receive RM30 and a certificat­e of participat­ion.
