KBCS wins Silver Award at CMIEA

-

KUCHING: Konsortium Bumi Consultants and Services Sdn Bhd ( KBCS) achieved another milestone when it won the Silver Award in the Medium Category of the Sarawak Chief Minister’s Industry Excellence Awards ( CMIEA) at Sarawak Business Federation’s ( SBF) Gala Night held at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching ( BCCK) recently.

The CMIEA is esteemed as the state’s highest corporate award adopted from the Anugerah Kecemerlangan Industri (AKI). KBCS managing director Ir Janang Bungsu was present to receive the award on Friday at BCCK here.

Yesterday through a press statement, Janang said the company’s latest MS ISO 9000: 2015 certification is one of the main reasons behind the recognition for KBCS’ level of performance.

“ISO 9001: 2015 is currently the most recognised and implemented QMS standard in the world.

“The ISO 9001: 2015 certification specifies the requirements for a QMS yardstick, which KBCS uses to ensure continuous improvement,” said Janang, who is an electrical engineer by training.

CMIEA’s entry requirements include being registered under the Malaysian Companies Act 1965, significant contribution to Sarawak’s economy, foreign exchange earnings, employment opportunities, linkages generation, and involvement in community development projects.

Among other things, KBCS was evaluated based on its

key businesses and support processes which are kept up-todate by MS ISO 9001: 2015 QMS. KBCS was assessed based on the company’s background, its key corporate long term and short term goals, major markets, environments that influence the competitiveness of the business, customers, leadership, and results.

Janang said: “I believe that the judging panel acknowledged KBCS fulfilled all the requirements necessary to win the award. The award helps us assess where we are so we can improve our best practices, customer satisfaction, quality leadership, contribution to society and all other aspects of our organisational performance.

“Being the first all Dayak multi- disciplined consultant firm, KBCS decided to participate in CMIEA because we wanted to benchmark and gauge our company’s management and financial performance.

“The primary objective was to expose our employees and management team to the internationally recognised Malaysian Business Excellence Framework ( MBEF). We were not aiming to win any award due to the prestige of CMIEA so to be awarded and identified as a company that meets MBEF is indeed an honour,” he added.

“We participated in the Association of Consulting Engineer Malaysia (ACEM) Engineering Design competition recently.

“Similarly, we did not join to win, but to gauge our technical capabilities with other consultant firms in Malaysia. By God’s grace, KBCS won the Bronze Award of Commendation,” he stressed.

On behalf of KBCS directors Ir David Sengalang and Ar David Hollis, Janang extended his gratitude to all associate directors and employees whose excellence has driven the company’s success.

“Their willingness to accept the challenge of participating in CMIEA and being awarded the Silver Award is a testimony that a Dayak company is as competitive and on par with other companies in Sarawak,” Janang said.

David Sengalang is a civil engineer while David Hollis, an architect by training.
